Mamata Banerjee's grand expansion and modernisation plans could turn out to be a big bonanza for India Inc. From upgrading the stations to expanding rail network to running the 57 new trains, all are opportunities that the industry has been waiting for. With the construction of multifunction complexes on railway land, enhanced security at railway stations or air conditioned double-decker inter city trains across the country—the goodies for industry from Mamata's bag just did not seem to stop.

For the work to be undertaken at the stations, companies like IVRCL, Gammon and L&T stand to gain. Companies like Titagarh Wagons, Texmaco and BEML can expect a healthier orderbook with the double-decker coaches that are planned and the dedicated freight corridor could be an opportunity for companies like Mahindra Logistics, Transport Corporation.

4. Bangalore- Hubli –Solapur Superfast (Tri-weekly)
5. Howrah – Bangalore Superfast (Weekly)
6. Pune- Daund- Solapur Superfast (Daily)
7. Ranchi –Howrah (3 days via Ghatshila- Kharagpur and 3 days via Asansol ) Intercity (6 days a week)
8. Kamakhya – Puri Express (Weekly)
9. Jabalpur –Ambikapur Express (Tri- weekly)
10. Gandhidham- Howrah Superfast (Weekly)
Railway Budget evokes mixed response Railway Budget evokes mixed response

The Railway Budget for 2009-10 evoked mixed reaction in Gujarat on Friday. Terming the budget as a hasty job, the Gujarat BJP said that gross injustice has been done to the state. The Congress on the other hand has called it a passenger-friendly budget. While welcoming the decision not to change fares and freights, the trade and commerce section has complained about the absence of new trains.

Though BJP MP from Ahmedabad (East) Harin Pathak said most of the demands of Gujarat have been ignored, he accepted that some of the objective demands raised by him had been met in the Budget. Pathak said he would meet Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee in the next few days and take up matters pertaining to Gujarat.

The Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry has lamented that only three of the 57 new trains announced today will connect Gujarat to other parts of the country. However, GCCI president Rupesh Shah welcomed the announcement of a non-stop train between Ahmedabad and Mumbai in view of the "increased traffic

Banerjee said, "These will be developed, through innovative financing and in public private partnership (PPP) mode." Stations which would undergo a facelift include the ones in the four metros, mini metros like Pune, Ahmedabad and Lucknow, along with some tourist destinations like Mathura, Arga, Puri and Tirupati.

While unveiling the budget last year, Prasad had said that the stations at New Delhi, Mumbai CST, Patna and Secunderabad would be made into world-class through PPP during 2008-09. However, the project made very little headway during the year. Another 375 stations will be developed as 'Adarsh Stations' during 2009-10 which will ensure that they provide basic facilities like drinking water, adequate toilets
